Rallycross fan favorite Steve Arpin, is excited by the new Mid-Ohio addition to the 2019 ARX schedule. ARX’s first Midwestern events will take place on June 8-9 and October 5-6 next season.
Canadian star Arpin raced a Ford Focus RS RX in the inaugural ARX season as teammate to Gymkhana legend Ken Block in the Loenbro Hoonigan team. Arpin finished on the podium in the final round at the Circuit of The Americas and is enjoying the expansion of the sport in the US.
“It’s really cool to see the future of rallycross together. Mid-Ohio is a great addition, especially with Cooper Tires extending their support of the series and helping make this happen and getting a group of promoters on-board that have such a great track record of hosting strong events. I think it’s a true sign of the sport growing and finding its feet again since the transition last year,” he said.
The Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio events mark the first Midwestern events for ARX and ARX2. The host facility, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course currently hosts premiere INDYCAR, NASCAR and SportsCar events that attract some of the largest crowds in racing.
The Mid-Ohio race will be is part of a multi-year agreement between Green Savoree Racing Promotions (GSRP), the owner and operator of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and ARX and will offer fans the chance to tailgate during an ARX weekend.
“The tailgating and camping at Mid-Ohio is going to add an element to rallycross that will fit our sport so perfectly. Providing the camping and tailgating atmosphere and there is no better venue to host that atmosphere and have a party,” said Arpin. “Especially everything we do [Steve Arpin and Loenbro Motorsports] with Care Camps and all of those kids, I’m really looking forward to what we’re going to put together with KOA Care Camps and Dometic and the Dometic Capital Fund, a company that has a strong stake in the camping industry, so we’re already looking forward to opportunities at Mid-Ohio.”
